Riding for fathers and sons

Passing through Moab on Tuesday, New Zealand national Pete Lietz was 3,500 miles into a 6,000-mile cross-country bike ride. “It’s character-building stuff,” he said. At 57 years old, Lietz is biking from Florida to Washington to challenge himself and raise money for men’s physical and mental health through the charity organization Movember. “I know of a couple of friends who have lost their sons to suicide … so it really resonates with me,” he said. “Not everybody has a great relationship with their sons, so it really hits home.” Having just come through Monument Valley, Lietz will double back east to Naturita, Colorado, before traveling north through the Rocky Mountains. “It’s mind-blowingly spectacular,” he said of the Moab area.
