The unidentified man they pursued was allegedly setting fires in dumpsters and to three churches of the Church of Christ of Latter-day Saints in St. George, causing damage to each.

Zion in a statement said the man was pursued from St. George into the park where he crashed at the Canyon Junction bridge, where he was taken into custody.

A small fire was started at the crash site and a Hurricane Brush truck was dispatched and put it out. It is unclear if the man started the fire or if it was the result of the crash.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the lead agency investigating the crimes, had not released the man’s identity by press time.
