Man found dead on Delicate Arch trail

A New Mexico man died Aug. 29 along the trail to Delicate Arch in Arches National Park, officials with the Grand County Sheriff’s Department said this week. The man, Richard Willis, of Albuquerque, was first spotted at about 1:30 p.m. by a hiker in the area who reported finding the 78-year-old man’s body to authorities.

National Park Rangers initially responded to the call and found Willis dead at the scene, according to a report from the sheriff’s office. Grand County deputies investigated the scene and found no evidence of foul play, according to the news release. The cause of death has not been determined, and deputies continue to investigate.

Willis’ body was taken to Kimmerle-Hefner Funeral Home, pending arrangements by his family.

Police search for men who offered teen drugs

The Moab City Police Department is investigating a report that two men approached a 13-year-old boy and offered him methamphetamine. The boy was walking along Center Street on Aug. 19 when the men stopped and talked with him and offered him the drugs, according to a report from the Moab City Police Department.

The boy’s mother reported the incident to police the following day. According to the report, the woman provided a description of the men and their vehicle and said she was concerned the men might approach other children in the area.

Man arrested for intoxication

A Moab man was arrested Aug. 26 for public intoxication after police were called to Kane Creek Blvd. on a report of an unresponsive man on the ground near a dumpster.

Officers located the man, 28, and found him on the ground, unconscious, and covered with dirt, according to a report from the Moab City Police Department. An officer finally woke the man but he had difficulty standing or walking, and fell asleep as the officer was putting him into the patrol car, according to the report.

He was arrested and booked into Grand County Jail.



UHP arrests man for DUI

A Moab man was arrested Aug. 8, for driving under the influence of alcohol, according to a report from the Utah Highway Patrol. The man, 50, was driving a 1990 Chevy pickup truck when he was stopped at midnight on Mill Creek Drive for improper lane travel.

He was arrested for DUI and booked into the Grand County Jail, according to the report.

 

Speeding violation lands woman in jail for DUI

A 36-year-old Moab woman was stopped for speeding on Aug. 25, at 7 a.m. near Sage Drive and Holyoak Lane. The woman, driving a 2004 Subaru Forester, was driving on a license that was alcohol-restricted, according to a report from the Utah Highway Patrol. A UHP trooper determined that the woman had been drinking. She was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into Grand County Jail.

Calif. man injured in motorcycle crash 

A California man suffered minor injuries Aug. 24 after the motorcycle he was driving drifted into the median on I-70 near mile marker 214 and crashed, according to a report from the Utah Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at about 12:30 p.m. as the man, 34, was traveling east on a Honda VFR motorcycle. Troopers investigating the accident said they believe the rider fell asleep, causing the motorcycle to crash.

He was transported to Allen Memorial Hospital by ambulance for treatment.
