Pumpkins will fly at the old Moab airport runway on Oct. 25 as the Youth Garden Project hosts its third annual fall fundraiser, the Moab Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival. The festival will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. south of Moab at the runway.
The fall harvest event will include contests for people of all ages, live music and entertainment, vendor booths, and a wide range of characters roaming the festival grounds. The festival’s namesake, the Pumpkin Chuckin’ Contest, is open to all.
Entrants compete in one of four divisions: catapults, trebuchets, cannons, or sling-shot, and youth categories are included in each division. After the contest, the pumpkin shards are collected and fed to local bison.
The event will feature live bluegrass music by the Metamoocil Mountain Boys, pie-eating contests, games and activities for children, as well as various arts and crafts available for sale.
Proceeds from the event support the Youth Garden Project, a non-profit group in Moab that cultivates personal growth, self-responsibility, and community awareness in youth through organic gardening, experiential education and community service.
Discount tickets will be sold at WabiSabi and Arches Book Company. Tickets at the door will be $10 for adults and $5 for children. For more information on the festival, visit the Youth Garden Project’s website at www.youthgardenproject.org or call 435-259-2326.
