Nine people were in the van at the time of the crash, but a female fled the accident scene on foot. Her whereabouts are unknown, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
The 1999 Toyota van crashed and rolled at 4:30 a.m. near mile marker 198, 34 miles west of the Colorado border, UHP officials said.
Four men died at the scene and four others were transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, Colo.
Federal officials told The Salt Lake Tribune this week that two of the survivors are in ICE custody and one man is in state custody. Authorities have not released the identities of the victims.
