“This is the most I have ever had travel to Monticello and it was awesome,” said coach Ed Guerrero. “Our wrestlers faced some tough kids from several programs and they wrestled very well. Some of them were losing their matches and ended up winning in the last few seconds. Which shows that if there is time on the clock there is time to win.”
The Little Devils traveled to Dove Creek to compete in the Dove Creek Youth Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, March 8. Seventeen Little Devils and four Junior Devil wrestlers competed in the event, against some very good wrestlers from several programs in the Four Corners Area, coaches said. Once again, both teams had strong showings.
Cooper Swasey, Ean Ellis, Lane Peterson, Peyton Hatathley all took first place. Breckin Shepherd and Caden Swasey took second place. Placing third were Connor Swasey, Gannon James, Isaac Robinson, Jason McKinney, Kristopher Harrison and Oscar Martinez. Ayden Ceniceros placed fourth. Keaton Page and Ryen Martin placed fifth, and Nixon Curtis and Trenton Nunn placed sixth.
For the Junior Devils, Dillon Harrison took first. Caison Ault and Maison Moyle both took second place, and Dallin Stubblefield took fourth place.
“I can’t thank the parents enough for their help. Without them there is no way I could coach the kids,” Guerrero said. “This is the sixth tournament that we have gone to as a team and I see these kids improve with every match.”
The youth wrestlers’ next tournament will be in Cortez, Colo., on Saturday, March 22.
