McDonnal, a third-grader, is the son of Shawn and Amber O’Donnal.
His teacher, Andrew Strawinski, said O’Donnal was chosen, in part, because he “always makes every effort to do better at anything he does.”
“Kyson continually strives for perfection. If he doesn’t understand a concept straight away, he works all the harder to understand it; trying different ways to attack the task at hand,” Strawinski said. “He also displays the integrity that we are trying to instill in our students. I can always count on Kyson to do the right thing, even when no one is looking. Kyson’s intelligence, integrity, creative thinking, and most importantly effort, make him an [exemplary] student.”
Moab Mayor Dave Sakrison and the Moab City Council presented the award to O’Donnal at the Jan. 28 city council meeting.
The HMK Students of the Month are selected by the faculty and staff of the school based on their all-around citizenship and their involvement within their school. The city of Moab presents the award as part of an ongoing effort to foster and recognize the contributions of young people within the community in practicing good citizenship.
