I wanted to take this opportunity to publicly offer an explanation of why this change is happening. As we evaluated this fundraiser, YGP staff and board found significant advantages to moving the festival to an in-town location. The two biggest reasons for moving the festival are to make the festival more accessible to more people in Moab and to reduce the administrative overhead of the event.
We are excited that youth and adults who may not have been able to make it out to the Old Airport runway in the past may be able to make it to the soccer field to enjoy the festival.
The Pumpkin Chuckin’ Festival is a fundraiser for the Youth Garden Project. As all nonprofits do, we are constantly looking at the overhead costs of certain events and programs and working to make changes where needed. The move into town will allow us to reduce the amount of expenses and staff time going into the event, making it a stronger fundraiser for YGP.
There will still be trebuchets, sling shots, and catapults launching pumpkins through the sky – with many of these machines being created by local and regional youth! There will also still be a pumpkin pie eating contest, the finest display of costumes, activities for kids, festival food and live music! Attendees will still be supporting the Youth Garden Project and our many youth and adult programs.
So, it’s a new location, but the same great festival! Please continue to support and enjoy it. We hope to see you at the high school soccer field on Oct. 26!
Thanks for supporting the Youth Garden Project!
