Charlie was born June 3, 1936, to Benito and Eliaria Gonzales Sanchez in Rio Arriba, N.M.
Charlie worked in the uranium mines in southern Utah for several years. He also worked at Rio Algom and Texas Gulf. He married Delores Chacon on Dec. 13, 1957, and they had four children: Jerry Cosme Sanchez, (deceased), Bill Charlie Sanchez, Manuel Robert Sanchez, and Julian Joseph Sanchez. They later divorced.
He then moved to Ogden and worked at Hill Air Force Base, J. Ron Stacey Construction and finally for McKay Dee Hospital, where he retired as the head custodian. He loved his job there and he made a lot of lifetime friends.
He came back to Moab and lived out the last five months of his life. He was so happy even though he was very sick from the cancer. He had lots of plans to go visit all his family, and especially his brothers and sisters. He loved them all very much. He had a special spot in his heart for his sister, Carrie Rash.
Charlie loved to go camping and fishing as much as he could. He also loved his Utah Jazz and the Denver Broncos. His greatest love was his family and his grandchildren. He had a knack for telling stories and making everyone he knew laugh, or at least smile. He will be missed by all who knew him, especially his family. We will never forget you; you will always be in our hearts.
He is survived by three sons, Julian Sanchez, Manuel Sanchez, and Bill Sanchez; sisters, Carrie Rash, Dorothy Mitchell, Cecilia, and Mary Jones; brothers, Gilbert Sanchez, Andy Sanchez, George Sanchez, and Joe Sanchez; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Montano and Virginia Sanchez; brother, Ernie Sanchez; and a son, Jerry Sanchez.
A funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at St. Pius X Catholic Church. A viewing was held on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Spanish Valley Mortuary.
