This year’s essay title was “What Freedom Do I Enjoy the Most?”
Among fourth grade students, Skylar Greenhaigh won first place. He also won first place at the American Legion Auxiliary District 5 competition. Jenny Kopell took second place and Gail Leavitt took third place among fourth-grade students in Moab.
Auburn Jackman was the first-place winner among local sixth graders. Jarom Shumway took second place and Ridge Murdock placed third.
In the eighth-grade competition Michelle Valdes won first place. She also won first place at the District 5 level. Tobin Wainer took second place, and Jayelen Knowles took third place among eighth grade students.
Auxiliary officials said only two students submitted entries in the 12th-grade competition. Donna Snow took first place and Mary Rice placed second in that category. Snow also won first place at the District 5. District 5 of the American Legion Auxiliary includes Moab, Price, Emery, Ferron, Huntington, Green River and Orangeville.
The Moab Auxiliary awards cash prizes to the first- through third-place winners and District 5 awards plaques to the first-place winners.
Officials with the Moab Auxiliary thanked the teachers who encouraged students to enter the essay contest as well as all students who participated. Each participating student was given a patriotic pin.
