“I shot 75 the first day and was in 56th, but shot 77 the second day and missed the cut by two strokes,” said Thomas, referring to the top 64 players who advanced to match play, which began on July 10. Cole Ogden, a 21-year-old junior from BYU, ended up winning the tournament on Saturday, July 13.
“I felt like I played pretty well,” said Thomas. “I fought hard the second day and was only three over until I double bogeyed the 16th hole. I had a lot of support and thank my parents for being there and supporting me.”
Thomas is a 2013 graduate of Grand County High School, where he excelled in golf, soccer, and basketball. He is the son of Geoff and Teri Thomas of Moab.
