She fought the most courageous fight anyone could possibly have fought to beat this disease to be able to stay with her family whom she loved very much.
Carolyn was born April 22, 1928, in Sunnyside, Utah, to Ludvig and Anna Kadunc Krompel. She attended school in Price, Utah, and graduated from Carbon High in 1946. Soon after high school she married Cecil (Zeke) McCurdy. In February of 1960, Carolyn and Zeke moved to Moab, Utah, where Carolyn remained until her passing.
In March of 1960 they had their only child, Lori Lynn McCurdy Lopez. In April of 1984 her first grandson was born, Michael B. McCurdy (Lopez), and in December of 1986 her second grandson was born, Stephen A. McCurdy (Lopez). Then the true blessings arrived on Aug. 3, 2007, and Feb. 2, 2009, her great-grandchildren Riley D. McCurdy and Taylin M. McCurdy. Carolyn loved babysitting and spending time with these precious babies. Her newest great-grandchild will be born in October of this year.
Caroyln worked in Moab from the mid 1960s until retiring in the late ‘80s for Family Budget Clothing and Millers Clothing. After she retired she went to work part-time at Spanish Trails RV.
In 1988, she was by her daughter’s side when she married the love of her life, Louis P. Lopez. With the marriage of Louie and Lori, she was blessed with two more grandsons, Jason M. Lopez, Kevin D. Lopez, and a granddaughter, Tiffany (Lopez) Davis. Along with all of this family, Carolyn was welcomed into the entire Lopez family, who loved her very much.
In retirement, Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life along with her only child, Lori. Her best friend of over 35 years, Donna Coates, was her constant companion that she enjoyed life with. She loved the mountains, fishing and traveling to St. George with Donna for their yearly girls’ week. Donna and Carolyn were the original Thelma & Louise.
After watching Lori participating in her athletic endeavors at a very young age – she never missed one game or event – she then followed her grandchildren from one end of the state to the other to watch and enjoy their successes. Before she was diagnosed with cancer she was able to attend her great-grandson’s first year of soccer.
Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, Ludvig and Anna Krompel; an infant brother; brothers, Joe and Bill Krompel; and grandson Jason Lopez.
Surviving relatives of Carolyn are: daughter, Lori Lopez (Louie Lopez); grandchildren, Michael McCurdy (Bridgett) Riley and Taylin McCurdy, Brendon and Kali Basley, of Moab; Stephen McCurdy (Tasha and baby) of St. George, Utah; Kevin Lopez, (Kyler, Kolbi and Khloe) of Montrose, Colo.; Tiffany (Lopez) Davis (Jordan and Charolotte) of Moab; sisters, Mary German, of Price, Utah, Annie Wilson (Stirling) of Price, Utah, Donna Coates (Jay) of Moab; sisters-in–law, Chili Harvick and Ruby Graham of Salt Lake City, Utah; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends whom she loved very much.
