Returning senior Jessica Pyatt was once again Grand’s top player. Pyatt scored 40 points for the team, a three-point improvement over her previous performance, and placed second individually in the tournament.
In addition, all of Grand’s other girls scored points for the team. Sophomores Brooke Schultz, Molly Hines, Cora Johnston and Zoe Wuthrich scored 23, 11, 12 and 18 points, respectively. Each girl improved on her previous tournament’s performance. In addition, junior Alex Gomez added three points to Grand’s tally, despite it being only her first tournament.
Head coach Penelope Butterfield said she was very excited with how the young team is doing.
“Everyone scored more this tournament, even Alex, and it was her first tournament,” Butterfield said. “Everyone who played scored points toward our total, which I think is very exciting ... Our girls are really improving a lot and they’re out there working really hard and enjoying themselves, which is so rewarding in and of itself. I mean, Zoe [Wuthrich] was out there at our course on a really tough hole but she knocked it right in on the green and got par for the hole. The girls are enjoying themselves, they like the groups they’re golfing with at competition, and they’re having a good time and doing a good job.”
The Lady Devil golfers were next scheduled to travel to Bountiful on Wednesday, April 10, to play a tournament on the Lakeside Bountiful course, which will be used as the state tournament course later this year.
“We’re hoping to do well and get some good practice for state,” said Butterfield.
Following the Bountiful tournament, the girls are scheduled to travel to Beaver on Tuesday, April 16, to play on the Beaver course. Tee-off will be at 11 a.m.
