This year’s production is entitled “Project Rescue: Save the Planet.” The musical is “a dramatic and musical exploration of issues surrounding the protection of our environment,” according to a news release from the school. MCS fourth- through sixth-graders will have acting parts, and the school’s younger students will participate in singing the various songs. Musical numbers focus on a theme of “Recycle, Replenish, and Respect,” according to the news release.
Students have been working since January to learn their music and lines, create their costumes, and create the backdrop and props.
The concepts presented in the musical tie in with several other activities and projects at the school, school officials said. For example, the MCS students are “friends of the parkway” and participate in a monthly cleanup the Mill Creek Parkway. The school also has partnerships with Dead Horse Point State Park, Arches National Park and Canyonlands Field Institute.
