The children laughed as Lindsey Vaccaro of Parriott’s Hair Salon in Moab shaved Grand County School District Superintendent Scott Crane’s goatee, Moab Mayor Dave Sakrison’s hair, and Grand County Sheriff Steve White’s mustache and hair.
The men submitted to Vaccaro’s clippers during a Tuesday, Feb. 12, assembly at HMK because fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-grade students there collected the most food items in the district-wide “Souper Bowl Caring Week” from Jan. 28 to Feb. 1.
Upper grade children at HMK turned in 2,275 food items for the Grand County Food Bank. Across the district, 4,883 food items were received.
Kathryn Jackson’s fifth-grade class donated 15.9 items per student, the most of any class in the contest.
Crane congratulated all of the students before sitting in a chair for his trimming.
“You guys did a great job for the food bank,” he said.
White and Sakrison also told the children their efforts to benefit the less fortunate were appreciated.
“Thanks for helping our community,” the mayor said. “This is a great thing you did.”
Students from Jackson’s class got a special treat when they lined up to take turns using the clippers to remove some of the men’s hair.
