A Moab man was arrested Jan. 23 for allegedly assaulting his wife. The woman, 57, told police she had made dinner for her husband and “it wasn’t fancy enough” for him so he struck her in the face, according to a report from the Moab City Police Department. The woman had a cut on her cheek, according to the report.
The man, 74, denied knowing anything about the woman’s injury or about dinner being made, according to the report. He was arrested and booked into Grand County Jail on charges of assault with a domestic violence enhancement. The woman refused to provide police with a written statement, according to the report.

drug citation
A Moab man was ticketed for possession of marijuana on Jan. 25 after neighbors contacted police to complain about loud noise. When police arrived at the apartment on 200 North the man opened the door and the officer smelled marijuana, according to a report from the Moab Police Department. During questioning about the odor, the man handed over a small amount of marijuana, according to the report. He was cited for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
Woman charged with DUI
A Moab woman was arrested Feb. 2 on suspicion of driving under the influence and failure to maintain proper lane travel on 100 West and Williams Way. The woman was taken into custody and booked into the Grand County Jail on the charges, according to a report from the Utah Highway Patrol.
Man assaults woman
with cooking pan
A Moab man, 34, was arrested Jan. 20 after police were called to a home on Chinle on a report that a woman had been struck in the head with a cooking pan. The woman was bleeding from a head wound and there were two pools of blood on the kitchen floor when police arrived, according to a Moab City Police report. She was taken by ambulance to Moab Regional Hospital for treatment.
A large sauce pan was found on the floor and the officer reported that the blow was so hard the handle broke off the pan.
The man admitted striking the woman because she “accused him of being a pervert,” according to the police report. He said he was washing the pan at the time of the incident and became angry because of things the woman was saying to him. He told police he had recently been released from prison and that he suffers from a mental disorder.
He was arrested on charges of aggravated assault and transported to Grand County Jail.
Man arrested for DUI
The Utah Highway Patrol arrested a La Sal man on suspicion of driving under the influence on Feb. 2. The driver was stopped at the intersection of U.S. 191 and Jackson Street, according to a report from the UHP. Further investigation by the trooper led to another male from La Sal being taken into custody for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, according to the report.

in U.S. 191 crash
A Moab man was seriously injured when his vehicle drifted off U.S. 191 and rolled. The man, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and received severe injuries including several broken bones, according to a report from the Utah Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred Saturday, Feb. 2, at mile marker 116 as the vehicle was traveling north and went off the right side of the highway. The driver over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle, according to the report.
The man was transported to Moab Regional Hospital and was later flown to St. Mary’s in Grand Junction for treatment.
