As an expecting mother out in Castle Valley, this letter shocked and frightened me. The writer then goes on to talk about living in harmony. Well, if you know anything about fossil fuel companies, you know that is the furthest thing from their minds. They are international companies coming into Utah to maximize profit, use up our available groundwater, and hope that nobody holds them accountable.
It’s a tale as old as time. It’s about water. It has nothing to do with what the oil platforms look like. They apparently need tons and tons of water to process the stuff and Utah is the second driest state in the country!
How can we let outsiders come in and use up our most valuable resource? If you ask anybody who lives near a mine site anywhere in the world, they will most certainly tell you how the processing chemicals leech into their water supply, or how their children have asthma from the refineries.
We mothers in Utah need to stand up and draw a line in the sand. Say NO to these international companies who want to just come into the U.S., tear up our land, use up our water, poison our air, and then leave. We need to nip this in the bud and stop the madness before it starts.
Preserve our water for our children. They’re gonna need it.
