Water and wilderness will be the featured topics during three presentations on July 10. The event, “La Sal Mountains to Canyonlands National Park: Our Water, Our Wilderness,” is sponsored by the Grand Canyon Trust and the Canyonlands Watershed Council as part of the Grand Canyon Trust’s community education series. 

“The presentations and discussion will focus on current and future conditions of two treasured resources of southeastern Utah: water and wild places,” according to a news release announcing the event. “Beaver restoration, watershed mapping, and a campaign to expand Canyonlands National Park are all underway, each with their own stories.”

The event will take place on Tuesday, July 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Moab Information Center, located on the corner of Main and Center streets in Moab. The presentations are free and open to the public.

Presenters include Mary O’Brien (Grand Canyon Trust), who will explore the important role of beavers in southeastern Utah, Laura Kamala, also from the trust, who will preview the effort to expand Canyonlands National Park, and the trust’s Greater Canyonlands film project and Laurel Hagen (Canyonlands Watershed Council), who will discuss southeastern Utah’s first collaborative watershed project and its role in addressing climate change and water scarcity.
