We have the opportunity in the near future to vote for the members of the board who are fully responsible for any of the decisions that have been made and will be made. It is up to us. I would like to share a few of the problems, as well as the solutions to these problems and how we can help.
The first problem is that majority of those who are unhappy have not come forward to make a stand, which may be fear, because in a small town we are all friends and neighbors or family, or maybe some just don’t care.
The second problem is that the few who have come forward have been met with excuses and blame. There has been no accountability.
Why are these bad financial decisions being made? Why are we losing our freshmen in high school sports? What are we doing to better these programs? Why is there no accountability?
These are serious issues that affect what kind of teachers we get and keep, and that determine the type of education our children receive and the taxes we pay. These decisions affect the programs available to our children and their opportunity to grow and rise higher.
May I suggest a few solutions. First, get to the school board meetings. Second, get out and get involved and educate our community, our neighbors and our friends on the issues and invite them to get involved. Third, when you go to the meetings demand answers of why these things are happening and how and when they will be resolved, and offer suggestions and solutions of how you would like to see them improve. Be specific.
If you find that met with excuses or blame, or can see that the changes you desire will not be addressed and the necessary changes be made, then have the courage to vote for new school board members. We deserve more. Our children deserve more, and we cannot let the many suffer on account of saving the one.
Please, Moab, stand up and be responsible. It is up to us to help ourselves and our children by voting for people who are willing to make the right decisions and implement the programs we need.
