Dead Horse Point is open, however. And here is my point and my view: We, the people of Grand County, as well as the rest of the counties in U.S.A. that have a federal park in their bounds, should take the park and make it either a state park or, even better, a local park. Remove the federal government from the equation.
I can see Arches being run by volunteers, people willing to protect and preserve the natural splendor. Also, adding the monies from said park(s) to the LOCAL coffers.
I for one would love to see the people take control of what they love. I know there are many out there who would take the time to make the parks open and man (woman) the booths, run the visitor center, take the tourists for informative hikes through the wonder that is OUR parks.
The recent government shutdown put 800,000 nonessential workers out of jobs. The key word here is “nonessential.”
Just a thought.
