King originally suggested the idea to a small group of friends on her Facebook page.
“It’s a good way to both reuse good toys and cut down on unnecessary holiday spending,” King said. “Why buy new toys... when we can just trade?”
After King proposed the toy swap several people voiced support for the idea and offered suggestions. As a result, King contacted Moab City Recreation Director John Geiger and asked him if the group could use space at Club Red to hold the exchange. The city granted King’s request.
King also decided to open the exchange to the public so that people who might not otherwise be able to afford to buy toys for the holidays can attend and participate in the event.
“You are not required to bring toys to give away,” King said. “Just show up and shop. Everyone is welcome!”
The event will be held at 4 p.m. on Dec. 1 at Club Red, 203 E. Center St., near Moab City Hall. Anyone interested in bringing toys is invited to show up at 3:30 p.m. to help set up. The event will be free of charge, organizers said.
