Larry Peterson passed away April 5, 2013, in his home in Fillmore, Utah. Larry was born July 29, 1935, to Leonard and Lola Peterson in Muskogee, Okla. Larry graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in forestry in 1957.

Larry was in the U.S. Army Signal Corps, N.J., in 1957-1958. Larry then moved to Utah to work for the U.S. Forest Service and enjoyed working in Fishlake National Forest.

Larry married his wife of 53 years, Carol Hatton, on Dec. 19, 1959, in the Manti, Utah, temple. He was so proud to be the first Smokey the Bear in Fillmore. He has since collected quite a bit of memorabilia.

After his years with the Forest Service in Utah and Wyoming he worked in Ohio, Michigan and Colorado. Larry and Carol settled in Lakewood, Colo., for 16 years. He created his own business at retirement, named Peterson Consultants; among other things, he often traveled as a secret shopper. In 1997, they then retired in Fillmore, Utah.

Larry loved working with computers and taking pictures. He spent many hours talking with friends and family and always had a story to tell. Larry was an administrator on many websites for his school website, BLM websites and many others. Recently, he has served as a LDS missionary, working with the camp properties in Utah.

Larry is survived by his wife, Carol Hatton Peterson; sons, David (Deanna) Peterson, and Keith Peterson; daughters, Barbara (Joe) Eagle, and Lisa (Craig) Scow; brothers, Varr (Mary) Peterson, Leroy (Marilu) and Ken Peterson.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don; sister, Jean; and grandsons, Victor and Tommy.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 13, at 11 a.m. in the Fillmore LDS Stake Center. Friends may call Friday from 6 to 9 p.m., and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment in the Fillmore City Cemetery with military honors.
