Grand had originally been scheduled to compete on the Green River golf course on April 24, but when the Richfield girls golf team announced they would not be able to attend, the competition was canceled and the Lady Devils instead chose to play “a friendly match against Monticello,” said GCHS head coach Rob Jones. “But we were victorious. We actually had San Juan by about 10 points.”
Junior Jessica Pyatt continued her winning streak, taking first overall in the competition and posting 39 points for Grand. Juniors Paige Ward and Jorre Bates also took home seven and four points, respectively, for the Lady Devils.
“It was a dominating performance, a dominating performance that hopefully we can use against the other teams later,” said Jones. “With Paige and Jorre... it’s a big performance over our previous tournaments. I think we can carry it over to future events.”
The Lady Devils were scheduled to play their last regular season match on Tuesday, May 1 on the Hideout course in Monticello. That match will be against the other region teams.
“It will be Richfield’s first time on the course, so I think we may have an advantage there,” said Jones. “We’ll go out there and hopefully have a good match and tear up the Hideout.”
After the match in Monticello, the Lady Devils will compete in the region competition on their home turf on Tuesday, May 8. The tournament will determine which team will go to the state competition. Tee-off time has not yet been announced.
