“WabiSabi is excited about Ms. Gilles’ decision to accept their offer of employment, and they look forward to utilizing her skills to assist WabiSabi in fulfilling its mission,” the group said in a news release. “WabiSabi believes that Ms. Gilles will provide strong leadership skills to the team as well as lead in organizing education and fundraising activities. Ms. Gilles brings to WabiSabi 20 years of experience as a nonprofit board member, director, volunteer and consultant.”
Gilles replaces former executive director Jeff Cohen, who recently relocated to Park City with his family.
“Moab is a phenomenal community and I am delighted to be given the opportunity to serve on this level...,” Gilles said in a letter to WabiSabi supporters. “Since I was a teenager, the great passions of my life have revolved around the premises so central to Wabi’s mission: non-profit support and development, sustainability, and reducing/reusing/recycling resources to turn rags into riches... In my 20 years as a non-profit board member, director, volunteer and consultant, particularly in Moab in the 90s, I gained enough personal experience to know just how necessary Wabi is to the health of our community.... To be asked to lead such an endeavor now feels like a dream come true.”
