The outing was funded through money from the State School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration, which is allocated by the GCMS School Community Council, according to a news release from GCMS.
Throughout the day, seventh- and eighth-grade scholars hiked a variety of trails in Arches National Park and the Island in the Sky section of Canyonlands National Park, officials said. The field trip gave students the opportunity to experience an “integrated curricular study” of those areas, including studying geology, soils, conservation/preservation, and personal growth, school officials said in the news release.
For many students, the trip was their first hiking experiences in the parks. After the hikes, students met at the Bar M Chuckwagon for lunch before heading back to school.
