The loss came just two days after the Red Devils decisively defeated Pinnacle Academy in an away game at Price.
The loss to the Rams left the Red Devils with a 7-12 season record.
“I think we played fairly well, but the bottom line was that turnovers killed us,” said head coach Travis Clark. “We had 18 turnovers by halftime, and even though we locked it down in the second half we still had 25 total.”
However, Clark found positive aspects to the Red Devils’ performance, despite the loss.
“I think we played this game much closer than we have our other games,” he said. “South Sevier is one of the top two teams in 2A basketball so I think we played well, played more competitively.”
Senior Dale Thomas was the leading scorer for the Red Devils with 28 points, including six three-point shots. Junior Kaden Risenhoover had 16 points and eight rebounds.
On Jan. 30, the Red Devils beat Pinnacle Academy 78-65. Risenhoover led Grand in scoring with 27 points, with 21 of those on three-point baskets. Senior Brett Walker added 24 points and 14 rebounds to earn player-of-the-game honors for the second consecutive week.
Grand held a 10-point lead at halftime and was in command throughout the remainder of the game.
“I feel we played really good,” Clark said. “Brett [Walker] and Kaden [Risenhoover] both had really great games, and I felt that they and our team played really good. It was nice to pick up the win.”
This week, Grand was scheduled to play two region contests at home. The Red Devils were scheduled to play their rivals, the San Juan Broncos on Tuesday, Feb. 5, and to take on the Emery Spartans on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
