A former Moab City Police Officer pleaded not guilty March 9 to felony burglary and misdemeanor theft charges. Eddie Guerrero entered the plea during his arraignment before 7th District Court Judge Lyle Anderson on Tuesday.

Anderson scheduled a jury trial for the case on April 28.

Guerrero, 43, is charged with burglary, a third-degree felony, and theft, a class A misdemeanor, related to incidents that allegedly occurred between Aug. 15 and Oct. 6, 2009, according to court documents.

The charges against Guerrero stem from an alleged theft that took place while Guerrero was still a member of the Moab City Police force.

The charges, filed Jan. 4 by prosecutor William Langston, who is acting as Grand County Attorney pro tem, allege that Guerrero “entered or remained unlawfully in a building... with intent to commit a felony or theft,” and that he “obtained or exercised unauthorized control” over property valued at more than $300 and less than $1,000, “with the purpose to deprive the owner thereof.”
