She was born on Nov 1, 1942 to Albert D. Fredericks and Eva L. Ziller. She was raised in Ouray, Colo., then relocated to Moab, Utah, with stepfather Johnny Clements at the age of 16. She married Bill Hawks in January 1960 in Moab; they had one son, Larry Ray. In June 1961, she was widowed due to a tragic mining accident.
She enrolled herself into nursing school and graduated in 1963. She married John G. Nicol in Denver, Colo., in Nov 1962. They were blessed with three children, Lisa, John and Jim, who they raised in Moab.
After a divorce she met her soul mate, Fred (Fritz) Schmidt, who she married in Nov 1975 in Grand Junction, Colo. They relocated between Wyoming and Utah until they finally settled in Tooele in 1976.
Her career as a nurse allowed her to work in many locations throughout the state. Her passion was spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed the outdoors, bowling, trips to Wendover, traveling and gardening. She found relaxation in all forms of needlework and was an excellent seamstress. Her family sought comfort and guidance through her strength as she provided a solid foundation to the family.
She is survived by her children, Larry (Diane) Nicol, Belgrade, Mo., Lisa (Gary) Porter, John Nicol, and Jim Nicol and her sister, Jonie Clements all of Tooele; two brothers, Buddy (Ovalee) Fredericks, Harrisburg, Ill., and Willie (Nadine) Fredericks of Delta, Colo.; three stepchildren: Robyn (John) Johnson of Moab, Utah, Shelly (Ryan) Stewart of Las Vegas, Nev., and Shad (Melinda) Schmidt of Moab, Utah; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her stepdad, her eldest brother Julius Fredericks, and two grandsons, Dylan Nicol and Rile Nicol.
An evening visitation was held at Tate Mortuary in Tooele from on Tuesday, Nov 13, and another visitation was held on Nov. 14 prior to service at Tate Mortuary. Interment was at the Tooele Cemetery next to her beloved husband, Fritz.
