The award recognizes afterschool staff, programs and leaders throughout the state of Utah for their “exemplary work in delivering quality youth development programs in afterschool settings,” according to a news release from the BEACON program.
“Michele Onderko... comes to BEACON with over 20 years of diverse experience in life, teaching/training, supervision, customer service and volunteer mentoring... It is clear that Michele is passionate about Grand County’s students – it shows in the high quality of work she delivers,” BEACON Director Stephanie Dahlstrom said. “Her dedication to helping all students is also revealed in all the volunteer work she does with numerous programs and activities outside of BEACON.
“Michele has worked for the BEACON program for four years and has been the academic site coordinator for two of those years. During the last two years, she has more than tripled the number of students attending academic assistance while solidly integrating the program with the school day. She leads by example and consistently strives for program improvement while advocating for students.”
