But an all-volunteer armed force is completely untenable!
School guards, at a minimum, must be trained and certified peace officers working in pairs.
This would not come cheap. There are about 120,000 schools in the country. If we stationed an average of two guards at each school, making $50,000 a year each in wages and benefits, we’re looking at about $12 billion annually, give or take.
I propose we create a Federal School Guard Trust Fund that, by law, is completely separate from the general fund, and not to be used for any other purpose.
By law, the revenue to fund the School Guard Trust would come from increased special excise taxes on gun manufacturers and all sales of guns and ammo, with the excise tax indexed to the rate of inflation.
