‘Radical Reels’ to benefit Friends of La Sal Avalanche Center

A collection of breathtaking short adventure films and clips from across the globe will be shown starting at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8 at the Grand County High School auditorium in Moab. The presentation, called “Radical Reels,” is an offshoot of the Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival and proceeds from the event will benefit the Friends of the La Sal Avalanche Center, said event organizer Ed Grote, a volunteer with the avalanche center.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

“It’s always cool to see such amazing footage,” Grote said, noting that the films highlight a wide variety of outdoor activities, including mountain biking, rock climbing, and kayaking, plus winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding. “The films will definitely get you excited to enjoy the incredible recreational opportunities surrounding Moab,“ Grote said.

The Friends of the La Sal Avalanche Center is an all-volunteer group of dedicated locals who have, since 1991, supported the Utah Avalanche Center, administered through the Manti-La Sal National Forest. 

The organization contributes volunteer time to help the forecaster with maintaining three weather stations, submitting field observations and providing backcountry partners.

The FLSAC also partners with the Manti-La Sal National Forest to support avalanche education classes, purchase backcountry safety gear, and repair weather stations and snowmobiles.
