The much anticipated 2009 Dolores River Festival is coming, Saturday, June 6 to Joe Rowell Park in Dolores. Gates open at 10 am and live music will be performed all day. Greater Dolores Action presents this annual event featuring local, regional and national bands, as well as, activities like the Fun Race, free raft rides on the Dolores River from Riverside Park to the Lost Canyon take-out, children’s activities featuring the Fabulous Flying Femmes aerial dancers and acrobatics and Music ‘N Motion sessions with Katya Chorover, a down-river kayak race, the Zuke’s River Dog Contest, and the Crazy Costume River Parade. This community oriented event includes great food, beverages, information from our local organizations, merchandise and more. Admission is $5, and free for children 15 and under.
Headlining this year’s festival is Lubriphonic hailing from the windy city of Chicago. Simmering and intense, with chops to spare, Lubriphonic’s live performances create a spicy dish that is guaranteed to cure what ails you. The members of Lubriphonic have individually toured with artists as diverse as Koko Taylor, Buddy Miles, Otis Rush, The Ohio Players, and Lenny Kravitz. Lubriphonic fuses old-school soul music with hip shaking rock'n'roll and searing improvisation.
Also, playing the Main Stage is Trevor Green. Thriving on the live performance, his stage setup resembles a musical playground, where he finds himself surrounded by guitars, a lap slide, mandolin, banjo, yidaki (didgeridoos), stomp box, and various percussion instruments. Green creates a sound that encompasses the genres of world, funk, folk, and jam rock. Not to be missed, is Zonky Tonk Zydeco, a fun, well-endowed band dedicated to providing their audiences with exhilaratingly hip musical presentations. The joint efforts of this highly entertaining group cover a host of infectious rhythmic and melodic sounds stemming from the bowels of Louisiana culture. More music includes Taos musicians the Brent Berry Band, local band Roscoe and other Montezuma County favorites.
